Circularity partners with Circular IQ to deliver data-driven circular economy solutions for New Zealand businesses

Circularity and Circular IQ have formed a long-term partnership to help businesses across Aotearoa with a data-driven approach to identify, measure, and evaluate circular economy solutions to reduce the emissions generated from the use of materials, packaging, water, and energy.

The Circular Transitions Indicators (CTI) framework was developed by WBCSD and 30 of its members. CTI helps companies measure and improve their sustainability performance by providing a simple and sector-agnostic way to measure circularity and giving insights into how to reduce primary resource use and waste generation. This collaboration will enable clients of Circularity to gain critical business intelligence in the performance of their global and local supply chains, considering material sourcing, the circulation of resources, and end of life processes. By working together with Circular IQ, our aim is to empower decision-making across the organisation for a wide range of impactful future shifts for procurement, capital investment, partnerships, and system and product redesign.

The circular performance of products, materials, and processes are becoming a transparency requirement for governance, regulations, and contracts. The insights generated by this partnership allow our clients to directly address the expectations from stakeholders and consumers, who demand a shift away from the linear, take-make-waste approach to production and consumption. With over 100 billion tonnes of extracted, virgin materials consumed every year and less than 8% cycled back into the economy, there is a huge opportunity for businesses to lead the recovery, reuse, and repurposing of their materials and now we can measure the impact of these decisions.

The collaboration will harness Circular IQ’s leading software solution, the data-driven CTI Tool, along with Circularity’s expertise as a circular design and innovation consultancy and XLabs circular economy program. The CTI Tool, leveraging the Circular Transition Indicator framework developed by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, enables businesses to measure and improve their circular performance. By working together, we can scale our services to meet the demand from businesses and industries to establish their baseline circularity measure, design a range of potential solutions, develop a roadmap, and monitor performance over a range of horizons. By building our database of current material use in Aotearoa, we can not only empower more action from businesses, but also inform future policy.

This best practice approach has been established by working with a number of leading businesses in Aotearoa including Profile Group, Rockit Apples, Bonson Packaging, Lion, and Silver Fern Farms. It has included measuring a range of solutions for renewable packaging made from wool, water recirculation systems, reusable food packaging, and nature-positive growing methods.
