Join us: Radically redesign the future of business showcase

Radically redesigning the future of business -

What has benefited your life from your ancestors? And what shifts can we make now in order to benefit the generations after us? In this showcase we explore the role businesses have in creating significant change by sharing the practices, policies and companies that are building circular economies. We invite you to reflect on yourself as an ancestor and the role business can play in shaping our future. What legacy do you want to create for our future generations?

As of the 8th April 2022, the world had 999 days to reach peak emissions. After that they have to go down dramatically in order to achieve the more conservative ‘the more conservative Paris Treaty goal of planetary warming within 2 degrees Celsius’

“We are at a crossroads. The decisions we make now can secure a liveable future. We have the tools and know-how required to limit warming,” - IPCC Chair Hoesung Lee.

On 27th October 2022, we will have 797 days until Wednesday 1st January 2025. Immediate, significant emissions reductions across all sectors are required, and no one solution or practice will get us there. Every day, every decision, collaboration, connection, imaginative idea, radical redesign of BAU and every minute of love, sweat, and hard work spent forging a new path all counts. That’s why we need to redesign everything.

So how do we get there?

A circular economy is based on three principles - designing out waste and emissions, keeping materials in flow and at high value, and regenerating our living systems.

Applying these principles can address the 45% of global greenhouse gas emissions generated by the way we make, use and dispose of products. This can unlock the value of 91% of raw materials that are wasted after a single use, and reduce the 90% of biodiversity loss associated with the extraction and processing of natural resources.

It’s a $4.5 trillion opportunity to mine from our economy, not our ecology. A path filled with opportunity, if only we let ourselves see it, and be a part of it.

This circular economy showcase will be co-hosted by Samantha Walmsley-Bartlett, Environmental Strategist at Circularity and founder of the 999 days LinkedIn E-Zine featuring weekly circular emissions solutions from around the world, and Louise Nash, founder of Circularity, XLabs and The Redesign of Everything podcast. This showcase features members of XLabs whānau and the rangatahi in our community to share what methods are collectively driving change today and what the next generation are wanting to see in the future of business in Aotearoa.
